Where To Start

OK, you have been working diligently to produce some good-quality, original, engaging or entertaining content on your blog…

You have started to attract a decent amount of traffic by using researched keywords that people are looking for using the search engines…

That’s good…

But, money is not going to magically appear out of thin air just because you have done all this. You still have to figure out a way to turn your traffic into money.

I am going to start with the simplest tool to use to do just that…

Google AdSense

Google has a program called Adsense that you can sign up for and use easily to generate some profits from those visitors to your blog.

The first step is to visit their website at http://adsense.google.com/. There you will find out more about their advertising program…

Before you go there, I have some extra bits and tips I’d like to tell you about.

The reason that Google’s AdSense program is really useful to monetize your blog is because when users finish reading your newest post, chances are they want to leave your blog.

They have nothing else to do on your blog.

But if you have an AdSense advertisement block that is visible to them on your blog page, they might see advertisements that are relevant to them and they will click on them as they exit your blog.

What happens then? Ka-ching!

You have just cashed in on your first virtual cents! Yes,

it is that easy…

Unfortunately, your ‘profits’ will only be cents if you don’t ‘do it right’.

Doing it right involves placing those Google ads in the right places on your blog website and ensuring they blend into your site so that they appear more natural like regular links rather than advertisements to your visitors.

For more guidance on this see the page at https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html.

There you will see a “heat map” of a blog. The “hotter” a certain area is on the page, the greater the chances are of someone looking at that ad and taking action to click through.

So once you have signed up for an account with Google Adsense, you can pull in the ads and then change the color of your advertisement text and links.

You want to match the colors used for the ad to that used on your blog as closely as possible.

For instance, if your blog’s text is black and the links are red, do the same for the ad blocks you will use too!

It’s that simple.

Product Reviews and Recommendations

Another way you can earn more profits from your blog is to review and recommend related products to your readers.

When your visitors go from your link to buy from the relevant merchant, you will get a commission.

This is what we call affiliate marketing and it is very easy to start and make money from because you don’t have to create your own products or services.

The best training I know of for learning how to effectively be an affiliate marketer is a program called Wealthy Affiliate.

I have been a member for 21 months and have not regretted a day since joining.

To see a review of this program (it is free to join, no credit card required), please check out my review by clicking here ==>  WEALTHY AFFILIATE REVIEW

There you will see all the good and bad points of this membership, and this is exactly what you will do for programs that you recommend to people coming to your blog.

I am an affiliate for Wealthy Affiliate and when people sign up I get a commission. This is OK, everyone that comes to Wealthy Affiliate is referred by someone and that person will get paid also.

The program is a viable and popular training site that has been in existence for over 10 years, and I have no problems putting my endorsement to the product at all…

That is what you need to look for as well. There are a lot of things involved that Wealthy Affiliate goes into to increase your conversion rate, and what they teach will cover any niche.

How it all works is that if your visitor clicks and purchases the gadget, product, or service, the merchant will be able to track from the link that you have placed in your review and when the visitor purchases you get paid.

Now imagine if 1 out of every 100 visitors you get to your blog goes ahead and purchases the product you are reviewing and recommending…Let’s say you earn a $27.00 commission from each purchase!

Extrapolate that out and if you get 10,000 visitors in a month to your website, that could be a $2,700.00 paycheck for you just for writing a review and recommendation for ONE product!

So your next question is likely this affiliate program business seems like a very nice way to generate profit, but how do I find affiliate programs that are related to my blog’s niche?

That is easy…Just go to Google Search and enter <your niche> + ”affiliate programs”.

Another slightly better way is to go to http://www.associateprograms.com/search and see what affiliate programs there are in your niche.

These are the two basic ways generate profits from your blog. There are some other says too, which we will cover right below, so stay on this page and keep reading!

More Monetizing Options

The first option over the two ways we have discussed to now is a site called Chitika (www.chitika.com). This is a very innovative contextual advertising program because it can serve very detailed advertisements.

For example, if you had a technological gadget blog, Chitika will show advertisements on your blog for tech gadgets such as iPods.

The way they show it to site visitors is using different tabs: One for “Best deals”, another for “details”, another for “reviews” and so on.

Presenting ads this way makes them seem more like native ads and more of an informational section to the visitor rather than a blatant advertisement…This does help with the click-through rate, and it will be higher.

You can apply for this program here:

Amazon

Another way to make money with your blog without creating products or services is to be an affiliate for Amazon.com.

Amazon offers a wide range of products for every niche, and signing up is easy with them too.

So whatever your niche is about, you can probably find products related to it on Amazon.com.

Join their Associate program here: https://associates.amazon.com/gp/flex/associates/apply-login.html/

Once you have joined, you can refer visitors to them from your blog and earn commissions.

The amount will vary but it can be as high as 8 to 10%.

It’s not a lot compared to some other programs out there, but if you can manage to refer huge volumes of visitors that take action and buy, Amazon is for you.

There are several ways to refer visitors:

(1) You can use their predefined templates that pull up recent items that match parameters that you will set, or

(2) You can target your ad to show a specific item on sale, or (3) You can just simply add your referral links

(3) You can just simply add your referral links directly into your blog posts, as I have done with Wealthy Affiliate link above.

Selling Advertising Space

The last area I want to cover today on how to monetize your site is to have you sell advertising space on your blog. This will likely only work if you are getting significant amounts of traffic on a regular basis.

Have a look at popular blogs in your niche and you will be surprised at how many people are doing this. There are several ways to sell these ads…

You can sell a native ad (it appears to be an informational post, but you clearly mark it as sponsored), or you can sell banner space, or even a video placement may be possible.

How much can you charge? It depends on many factors, but the main one is traffic and the niche. If you have traffic in a niche that people need ad space for you can charge up to $150 a month or more!

You should get Google Analytics and track what kind of traffic you are getting and from where, and you will be able to better sell your ad space to others. This is a free and easy to use tool for you.

If the traffic is not there to where you can demand such a price, you can always sell the space on a pay per click basis. That means you get paid only if someone clicks through to the merchant.

Try visiting sites like www.adbrite.com. For a complete list of these sites, visit http://performancing.com/node/60. These all have programs that you may be able to tap into…

So you now have some good ideas on how to promote products and services and start monetizing your blog. Take this information and hit the ground running!
